“This is a new quality of life.”

Sarah (5 and a half) is on the road with her new momo tricycle.

“I cried when it was delivered” said Sandra. Her daughter Sarah can now ride her momo tricycle. – ALONE! If you had seen Sarah a year ago you would never have believed it. Sarah was born with “De Grouchy Syndrome” this is a genetic defect which causes a delay in her speech, development and also causes hypotension. Because of this she only learned to walk when she was nearly 3 years old.

A lot of ambition and a big wish

Despite learning to walk the now five year old Sarah still needs a lot of support. She has to go to Occupational therapy and Physiotherapy sessions every week. Sarah shows unrestrained ambition, this little girl has a big wish, she wants to ride a bike! The first approach was to try a regular bicycle with stabilizing wheels but Sarah’s mother Sandra wasn’t convinced “I was always afraid that she would fall over because it was so shaky.”

Then Sarah tried the momo tricycle. and everything changed. She doesn’t want to get off the saddle anymore.

Cycling means freedom and inclusion

Five weeks later the new bike was delivered, our colleague Christina Hertel brought the tricycle herself and the joy from Sarah and her family was enormous. “You can also cry when something beautiful happens and I was in tears” said Sandra. She now enjoys spending more time outside with her daughter and can do some trips; “Sarah is flexible now, she has a new attitude to life and it means more freedom for her and for us.” Someone else is able to have fun too, Sarah takes her beloved stuffed sheep Nici everywhere she goes in the bikes basket.

There is now one more wish for Sandra and her daughter – they would like to take a bicycle tour at the North Sea. With Sarah’s determination we don’t think it will be long before this happens!
