Trunk Run! We run for Minh-Tan.
To finance the construction of the new elephant enclosure, Osnabrück Zoo has launched the “Trunk Run”. Due to the loss of admission fees, the zoo is urgently in need of donations. As the sponsor of the bull elephant Minh-Tan, it is of course a matter of honour that we also run!
52 runners from the entire Schuchmann team answered the elephant’s call. The participation fees of € 29.99 each were covered by the company! Some of the employees had brought their families with them. Dressed in jogging gear, sports shoes and wearing the Rüssel-Run sponsor shirt, they took part in the charity run. Even in southern Germany, our team was sporty. Our field service colleague Nadine Gallenbach did her laps with her family on the sports field in Epfenbach (Rhein-Neckar district).
Donation run adapted to the current situation
Alone – and with enough distance between them – the runners managed the fundraising run without getting in each other’s way. With the different course lengths, this was no problem. When registering in advance, participants could choose the distance or lap they wanted to run. In addition to the Luka course (10 kilometres), there was the Minh Tan course (5 kilometres) and the Yaro course (1 kilometre). The fastest runners in the team completed the 10 kilometres in an incredible 48 minutes.
Help for Osnabrück Zoo
Osnabrück Zoo would like to use the donations to
expand and modernise its elephant enclosure, among other things. However, financing has been difficult for months. Because of the lockdown, no visitors are coming to the zoo, which is otherwise 75 percent financed by admission fees. Osnabrück Zoo is home to the elephant cows Sita (8 years old) and Douanita (34 years old), our sponsored animal Minh-Tan (3 years old), Yaro (2 months old) and the adult bull elephant Luka (47 years old).
