On the International World Day of Persons with Disabilities on 3 December, we have to realise that we are still far from an inclusive society.<\/strong><\/h2>\n

We see people in wheelchairs or with walkers, people with guide dogs or people with Downs Syndrome, but many other types of disabilities are not visible. According to the World Health Organisation (WHO), there are around one billion people with a disability. Of these, 12 percent live in Germany alone. We cannot and must not ignore this.<\/p>\n

Just think of others<\/strong><\/h3>\n

The senselessly parked bicycle or e-scooter in the middle of the pavement. Parking spaces for disabled people being blocked. Or the lack of wheelchair ramps and handholds on stairs in public spaces – for example at theatres or sports facilities. For people with disabilities, these are sometimes difficult stumbling blocks and obstacles to overcome. Each of us can contribute to making inclusion possible.<\/p>\n

Mutual appreciation and respect<\/strong><\/h3>\n

Let us treat others as we would like to be treated. Kindly and fairly with mutual appreciation and respect. To set a “purple” example, the global campaign Purple Light up will take place on 3 December. The aim is to raise awareness for people with disabilities around the world on this day.<\/p>\n

We advocate for equal rights and an inclusive society. The living situation of people with disabilities in Germany must be improved.<\/p>\n
