One of the symbols of German Reunification Day is the Wall. For 45 years it\u00b4s separated East Germany from West Germany. With the fall of the Wall, a new life began for the people. Suddenly, they could vote and travel wherever they wanted. Nevertheless, there were challenges to overcome.\u00a0 For many there is still separation – be it through different salaries, views or opportunities.<\/p>\n

More participation and inclusion<\/strong><\/p>\n

We would like to use the German Reunification Day to draw attention to walls in our heads –\u00a0 they must finally be torn down. For us the focus falls on people who are physically or mentally restricted from birth or due to an accident. They are part of our society! They and their relatives deserve recognition – or at least the possibility to lead a free and normal life, without exclusion, discrimination or even persecution. We hope that inclusion and participation will finally become reality – not only in the West and East, but everywhere!<\/p>\n

\nThe Unification Treaty entered into force on October 3rd, 1990. On this day, the former GDR officially joined the Federal Republic. The division of Germany was thus overcome after 45 years. Brandenburg, Mecklenburg-Western Pomerania, Saxony and Saxony-Anhalt as well as Thuringia and Berlin have since belonged to the Federal Republic of Germany. With the reunification, the East-West conflict (“Cold War”) was brought to an end.<\/p>\n<\/div><\/div>\n
